In September 2016, Washington University in St. Louis organized the 6th International Symposium of the McDonnell Academy in Brisbane, in collaboration with one of its longstanding partners in Australia, The University of Queensland.
The Symposium program featured sessions and discussions focusing on ongoing research and how institutions of higher learning can foster the collaborative efforts required to address the complex global challenges.

Program
The Symposium convened presidents, faculty and graduate students from the Academy’s partner institutions to discuss how research universities can foster the collaborative efforts required to address complex global challenges in three thematic areas: Population Aging & Global Public Health, Food, Water, and Sustainability, and Energy & Environment. Attendees were invited to actively participate in thought-provoking plenaries, workshops, and competitions.
