A metallurgist-trained materials scientist — Gusaimas received his bachelor’s degree in Metallurgical and Materials Engineering from Universitas Indonesia in 2024. His research focuses on developing shape memory alloys, integrating computational methods at the High-Performance Materials Laboratory under Prof. Bondan Tiara Sofyan. Gusaimas also worked at the Advanced Materials Research Center at Universitas Indonesia. Under the supervision of Prof. Akhmad Herman Yuwono, he investigated the metallurgical extraction of titanium from ilmenite and developed nanoscale semiconductors for next-generation solar energy harvesting applications.
Now pursuing a PhD at WashU’s Institute of Materials Science and Engineering, Gusaimas aims to develop high-performance alloys that meet the challenges of the 21st century.
Among his many accomplishments, Gusaimas earned the prestigious Indonesian International Student Mobility Award and graduated at the top of his class, receiving Summa Cum Laude honors as the Faculty of Engineering valedictorian at Universitas Indonesia.
His studies in the UK and Czech Republic fostered a love for exploring new places, intercultural exchange, and documenting moments through photography. In his free time, Gusaimas enjoys experimenting with new recipes and building and painting scale model kits.
